Opioids & Chiropractic Care
Chiropractors vs Opioids
Opioids are very addictive drug substances that are primarily used to relieve pain. In the early 2000’s, this new drug was thought to relieve pain without any side effects and without becoming addictive. Unfortunately, as time went on, researchers found that the Opioid drug is highly addictive and it does have several side effects. To learn more about Opioid side effects, please visit the Opioid Wikipedia page.
Opioids act as a pain reliever that hides the pain but does not heal the body. Overtime with continual use, the body adapts to Opioids and requires more frequent doses to hide the pain and get the pain relief that your needs.
When a person stops taking the Opioid drug, they find that the pain is still there and that the body was never healed. A chiropractor can help relieve the pain and heal that pain with chiropractic treatments. However, once the body has become addicted to the drug, a plan will need to be in place to help reduce withdrawals by slowly taking the person off of the Opioid drug while the body heals with chiropractic care.
Dr. Joe Graffeo at the Graffeo Chriopractic Clinic is very knowledgeable of Opioids and how they effect the human body.
